School Variables and Pupils’ Academic Achievement in English Language

ABSTRACT

The study on” School Variables and Pupils’ Academic Achievement in English Language in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area”. The population for the study consisted of all the pupils in all the nineteen (19) public primary schools in the study area. The sample of one hundred (100) pupils were drawn from ten ((10) selected public primary schools in the study area using simple random sampling technique. Two research hypotheses were postulated to guide the study. The instrument used to gather the needed data for the study was school Variables and academic achievement questionnaire (SVAAQ). Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) statistical method was used to analyze the data collected. The results of the findings revealed that instructional materials have significant relationship with pupils’ academic achievement in English Language in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. Based on the conclusion of the findings, it was recommended among others that government, parents and non-governmental organizations should partner to improve the standard of school variables as to encourage and enhance teaching and learning process in schools. On the basis of the findings, it was concluded that the size of school, teachers’ qualification, and instructional materials have significant relationship on pupils’ academic performance.
